Rangers finish off Reds, await Red Sox

The Texas Rangers (47-26, 1st AL West) bounced back from an 8-2 loss to the Cincinnati Reds Tuesday night with a 6-4 win last night in the rubber match led by Cole Hamels who is now 10-1 against the Reds.  Hamels struck out eight, allowing only one run in six innings.

“No matter how you do it, no matter how well it looked on paper, we’re getting the job done. It’s about getting the [win],” Hamels said. “We’re playing as a team. No one in this clubhouse is trying to do more than what they’re capable of doing. No one is trying to be selfish. Probably the most positive vibes I’ve experienced day in and day out.”

The Rangers have little time to celebrate as they await the return of the Boston Red Sox (40-32, 2nd AL East) to Arlington.  Starting for the Rangers will be Nick Martinez (1-1, 5.14 ERA) who will be going up against Red Sox lefty David Price (8-4, 4.24 ERA).

Rangers knock off Astros

The Texas showdown series between the Houston Astros (29-33 3rd AL West) and the Texas Rangers (37-23 1st AL West)  came to a close last night with the Rangers taking the series three games to one and nine of their last 10 meetings.

SS Carlos Correa left the game in the fifth inning with a sprained ankle but is not expected to be put on the DL.

“Luckily, so far, the evaluation’s been as positive as we could expect,” Astros manager A.J. Hinch said. “At this point we’re optimistic.”
