The Texas Rangers opened a four game home stand against the Minnesota Twins last night and the Twins got off to a fast start putting up four runs in the first two innings against Chi Chi Gonzalez who went 4 2/3rds innings tossing out 124 pitches in the process.
“I’ve been in this situation before,” Rangers manager Jeff Banister said. “Stomping my foot, screaming and yelling, is not going to work. There are a number of messages that need to be sent, but the bottom line is we’ve got to be better. We have to be better. It all starts with starting pitching. If you work behind and give up runs, it makes it challenging.”
From the time Gonzalez left the mound, there were three other pitchers used, Cesar Ramos, Shawn Tolleson and outfielder Jared Hoying pitched the ninth inning.
“This is the first time in this stretch we’re in that we weren’t able to score any runs,” Banister said.
The Rangers had eight batters reach base in the first four innings but could not manage to score.
The Rangers continue the series with game two scheduled for tonight, game three for Saturday and game four on Sunday. Plenty of great seats and affordable tickets are still available so be sure to grab yours today and help cheer on your Texas Rangers!!

The Rangers snapped a three game losing streak.
“It was good to have a win tonight,” Robinson Chirinos said. “We haven’t played well the past few days, but we did tonight. We pitched good and hit. A team win … everybody pulled a little bit to win the game.”
In the rubber match, the Rangers will send out SP Martin Perez (7-4, 3.39 ERA) who will go up against Steven Wright (9-5, 2.42 ERA). Perez last played against the Twins on Wednesday, giving up two runs over seven innings and is 6-0 in his last eight starts.
