Tigers, Verlander push Rangers to third straight loss

Justin Verlander won just his second back to back of the season and it came at the hands of the Texas Rangers (84-72, 1st AL West) who are battling to keep the top spot in the AL West, the Houston Astros nipping at their heels and only 1.5 games behind.

The Tigers pounded out a five run fifth inning fueled by Tyler Collins three run homer, capping a 7-4 win on the road.  Verlander had a great game allowing six hits, two walks with five strikes, dropping his ERA to a season low 3.39.

The Rangers attempted a late ninth inning rally, loading the bases against Ian Krol.  Neftali Feliz then gave up a two-run single to Prince Felder bringing Adrian Beltre to the plate but the play ended with a game-closing double play.

Rangers drop two against Mariners

On a night when the Texas Rangers scored 10 runs on 13 hits, closer Neftali Feliz gave up two runs in the bottom of the ninth to help the Mariners secure a come from behind victory.

“It was a great win,” Nelson Cruz, who hit two home runs, said. “I think we need this one. [I was looking for] something that I can put in play. I strike out three times with runners on … When it mattered the most, I get the hit.”

The Rangers opened the series with 1-3 victory but dropped back to back games Saturday and Sunday.  They now continue their road trip and begin a two game stand against the Arizona Diamondbacks  Tuesday night.  Great seats and affordable tickets are still available so be sure to get yours today!
